Best Breast Implant Placement: Subgladular vs Submuscular

breast_augmentationbrownsvilletexasWhen considering breast augmentation, you and your Board-certified plastic surgeon have 4 main decisions to make:

  1. The size of the breast implant
  2. The choice of saline vs. silicone breast implants
  3. Whether to place the implants over vs. under the muscle.
  4. The location of the incision

Subglandular – this means placement of the implant above the pectoral muscles but below the mammary gland. Technically, all implants are subglandular because implants placed below muscle are also below the mammary gland. However, this term refers to placement just below the mammary glands and above the muscle. This placement is also referred to as retroglandular or submammary.

Submuscular – although many refer to subpectoral placement as “submuscular,” fully submuscular placement actually means placing the implant under not only the pectoralis major muscle (covering the upper portion of the implant) but also under related muscles at the lower half of the implant.

Selfies may cause people to seek surgery

SelfieThere’s no denying the power of the selfie. Ellen DeGeneres’ star-studded selfie nearly broke Twitter with almost 3.5 million retweets, but the younger generation has been taking and posting this type of picture since photo-sharing options were first made popular on social media.

According to the survey, one in three patients who had facial procedures were influenced by the way they were portrayed in pictures on photo-sharing networking sites, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Specifically, the organization reported a 10 percent increase in rhinoplasties and 7 percent rise in the number of hair transplants in 2013.

Social platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and the iPhone app, which are solely image based, force patients to hold a microscope up to their own image and often look at it with a more self-critical eye than ever before, the study indicated that the younger population has been affected most by this rising trend. These sites generally receive the most traffic from students in college, middle or high school, demographics that are likely to be greatly influenced by the way their images are perceived.  Surgeons reported a 58 percent increase in the number of patients under the age of 30 who sought procedures in 2013, according to press release. Additionally, the release indicated that the most popular operations among this age group were rhinoplasties, skin rejuvenation and acne reduction.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid Surgery in Brownsville Texas

Eyelid Surgery in Brownsville Texas

During the natural aging process, some of the earliest and most visible signs happen around the eyes. Excess or sagging skin in the upper and lower eyelids can make you appear older than you really are and create a tired, worn out look.

Commonly referred to as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper and lower eyelids or both. Eyelid surgery can correct several common cosmetic eyelid concerns, including:

  • Extra skin in the upper eyelids
  • Disappearance of the upper eyelid crease, caused by excess skin
  • Eyes that appear tired or sad
  • Impaired peripheral vision due to extra skin
  • Wrinkles around the eyes
  • A puffy appearance in the lower eyelids
  • Loose or drooping lower eyelids
  • Hollows underneath the eyes

Restore Your Youthful Look with Breast Lift Surgery

There are several ways to perform a breast lift, depending on individual body type and specifications. Generally, the more extensive a breast lift surgery is, the more invasive it becomes. The least invasive procedure involves making incisions around the areola, where excess skin is removed and the nipple is repositioned. A more extensive version of […]

Which incision should I choose for breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation incisions

Breast augmentation incisions

There are three major incision choices for breast augmentation. The first is called the inframammary incision, which is in the fold beneath the breast. The second is the periareolar incision, which is at the bottom edge of the nipple. The third is the axillary incision, which is in the armpit. There was also a fourth incision, which is not used by most plastic surgeons, which is called the umbilical incision, or the transumbilical incision.

We use the inframammary incision exclusively. The inframammary incision, which is the incision in the fold beneath the breast, has a decreased risk of capsular contracture, which is hardening of the tissue around the implant. Capsular contracture can require a very big surgery, and sometimes multiple surgeries to attempt to correct. So trying to avoid this problem is important.

When will I see results after breast augmentation?

Most patients who choose breast augmentation are happy with the results. You’re more likely to be satisfied with your experience and your implants if you clearly understand what is realistic to expect after the surgery. Breast augmentation is typically performed as outpatient surgery, permitting the patient to go home the same day. Here is information about what you should expect following breast augmentation surgery.

Results of breast enlargement surgery are immediate; however, keep in mind that predictable temporary swelling will cause the size and shape of the breasts to appear somewhat different than they will after the healing process is complete.

Liposuction on Brownsville and Mcallen Texas

Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Adequate skin tone is needed for the skin to ‘snap back’ and redrape. During the past decade, liposuction, which is also known as ‘lipoplasty’ or ‘suction lipectomy’, has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a number of new techniques are helping many plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times.
